A lot has happened in the last month at Book2CD.
We did not only scan many books, we have also been working very hard to make
the website better surveyable.

New is our cooperation with the "Passerel" foundation.
In search of expansion of our capacity to scan historical books we arrived at
the printing office
of the Passerel foundation in Vaassen. They are working with handicapped
people
to develop and maintain their knowledge, abilities and possibilities.
This place has a number of very enthousiastic people and fantastic
supervisors.
Their need was to expand the amount and kind of activities of the printing
office.
The supervisors have informed themselves about the activities around the
scanning and think a number of their employees are very capable to do a good
and accurate scanning job.
In June a Book2CD bookscanner has been installed in Vaassen and Book2CD has
taken care of instruction.
We as Book2CD expect to benefit from this for our Book2CD project and you as
sympathizing customer, because this way our collection can grow faster.
The owner of the "missing" Erica 1933-1934 (see our last news
letter) has
borrowed her book to Book2CD to have it scanned.
She received the CDROM and her book back again on June 14,
after which she presented the original to the Apeldoorn Archive.
We organized a festive meeting in Knowledge Centre "De Verdieping".
The "Apeldoornse Courant" published an item about this and
"Stad in Bedrijf"
will publish an article about it in their next issue.
We are pleased to have been able to contribute to the preservation of a part
of our heritage and will be on the look out for the still missing parts.
Sportschool Isokin in Apeldoorn held a rowing match in June for their
customers.
Book2CD arranged a CDROM of the "Atlas der ontleedkunde van den
Mensch"
(1908) for the winner in each age category. Here one could see the hard
working muscles again.

This months offer is the CDROM "De socialisten, Personen en
Stelsels" by Mr.H.P.G. Quack (1911).
A series of 6 parts about the origin of Socialism and those that played a part
in it.

Another new CDROM is the "Staatsblad medische codes" (# 45919)
At the medical examination for the Dutch Military Service people with
certain disabilities are exempted from National Service. From 1862 onwards
this has been published in the Dutch Government Gazette. In the years after
this date the codes have been frequently changed with the increase in
(medical) knowledge.
For people interested in this subject it is difficult to research the issues
of the Government Gazette, in which these rules were published. To make this
information available, the Rijksarchief Noord Holland has collected the
relevant issues of the GG and these articles have been scanned, OCRd and
put on CDROM by Boek2CD.
On this CDROM the following KBs are published (KB = Koninklijk Besluit i.e.
Royal Decree): 1862 - 1912.

Very soon the CDROMs of the "Staatsenquete Arbeidsomstandigheden"
will be
made available through our catalogue. This "a poll concerning the social
circumstances of the labourers, regarding the relations between employers
and labourers in the various industries and about the condition of factories
and workshops considering safety and health of the labourers, established by
the State
Comitty, appointed by law on January 19 1890 (Staatsblad no 1)"
People from various professions, from labourer to director were being
interviewed about labour circumstances and labour duration, compensation,
relations between workers and home circumstances.
This gives a good impression of daily life at the end of the 19th century.
